What Mattress Size Is Right For You?

When it comes to mattress shopping, sometimes choosing what size of mattress can be a challenge since there are many options available. Understanding the different dimensions of each mattress size and comparing that against what you need from a mattress will help you narrow it down. Factors to consider as well include if you sleep alone or with a partner, do you share your bed with pets or children, your personal height, and the size of your bedroom. Measuring your bedroom dimensions before mattress shopping is key so you have an idea of how much space it can accommodate for a mattress. Take a look below for our mattress size guide!

Crib Mattress Size

A crib mattress is what your baby’s first bed will be and will suit them up into toddlerhood. The crib size dimensions of 27” x 52” is generally the standard across the U.S., so most crib mattresses will fit in any standard baby crib.

Twin Mattress Size

A twin mattress, also known as a single mattress, is best for solo sleepers, as it has a slim profile. Twin mattresses can accommodate toddlers, teens, and adults who are under six feet tall. Due to their slim size, they are also ideal if you need more than one mattress in a single bedroom, either side by side or bunk-bed style.

Twin XL Mattress Size

The Twin XL mattress is the standard size of beds in colleges across the U.S., and sleeps teens and young adults comfortably, including those over six feet tall. A Twin XL mattress has the same width as a Twin mattress, so it is still a solo sleeper mattress.

Full Mattress Size

If you’re looking to upgrade from a twin but don’t have the capacity for a queen mattress, a full size mattress is the perfect compromise! A full mattress is ideal for those looking to upgrade from their childhood beds or those with limited space. A full can sleep two, but it’s more popular as a spacious option for single sleepers.

Queen Mattress Size

Queen mattresses are the most common mattress size, as it provides ample space for two sleepers while still fitting into smaller sized bedrooms and apartments. Queen mattresses are also less tall and wide than a King, making it the ideal bed profile for a majority of people.

King Mattress Size

When you need a mattress that feels luxurious, a King Mattress provides plenty of space. A king mattress gives sleeping partners the equivalent of a Twin XL mattress in space, so you can rest east knowing you won’t be fighting over bed space. A king size mattress is also spacious enough to accommodate large pets or small children on top of couples. Most master bedrooms in homes and larger apartments can fit a king size mattress.

California King Mattress Size

A California King mattress gives you the space of a King mattress with additional height and less width. A California King mattress is approximately 4 inches slimmer than a King mattress while providing 4 inches of length, making it ideal for tall sleepers who want a large amount of sleeping space. Not every master bedroom can accommodate a California King, so be sure to have your bedroom dimensions on hand before choosing this mattress size.
