What Is CertiPUR-US?

Have you ever come across the words CertiPUR-US® Certified when mattress shopping and not sure what that means? We break it all down below – keep reading to learn more about CertiPUR-US®!

What is CertiPUR-US®?

CertiPUR-US® is a non-profit organization that was formed by the Alliance for Flexible Polyurethane Foam after major concerns of safety & materials of mattresses surfaced in 2007. From there they created the certification program to test and analyze mattress components for banned or toxic chemicals that could negatively impact consumers.

They analyze mattresses and determine if the foam used meets their high standards for durability, content, and emissions. All CertiPUR-US® tests are conducted in accredited laboratories.

What Does Certification Mean?

A foam that has been certified through the CertiPUR-US® program, such as Ō by Neven, is free of chemicals that have been determined by the GHS (Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals) to fall into its category 1A or 1B, which are chemicals that may cause cancer, may cause genetic defects or damage fertility or an unborn child.
